Department of Marketing and Tourism
Information about the Department of Marketing and Tourism
The Department of Marketing and Tourism was established in June 2007 on the basis of the Department of Economics and Marketing.
Bachelors are trained in 4 specialties there: “Marketing”, “Tourism”, “Socio-Cultural Service”, “Ecology” in full-time, part-time, evening and distance form of training in Russian and Kazakh departments. There is also the English department in Marketing.
Furthermore, the department prepares Masters of Marketing in full-time and distance learning. The opening of new specialties in MA course – “Tourism” and “Socio-cultural service”.
The number of teachers of the chair is 28 people where:

Scince degree ratio of the chair is 60% (from the number of internal teachers).
All the lessons are held in accordance with State Standard of the Education which is based on typical and working learning plans.
Faculty meetings are held regularly at the department to discuss education - methodical and organization-methodical work, in particular on improving the working programs, test control, midterm results.
There are plans of research work, research work with students, educational work and professional development.
Scientific and methodical seminars on topical issues of scientific research and seminars to improve teaching methods are carried out in accordance with the plan. Seminar operates on Marketing and Tourism sections.
Classes are conducted in accordance with State educational standards of Kazakhstan, based on the typical and the working curriculum, in accordance with typical and working programs.
Education-methodical complexes of disciplines (EMCD) and syllabus were developed for all readable disciplines, and they are available in the university library. In addition, methodical guidelines on the implementation of theses, teaching and program evaluation and production practices, methodical guidance on writing term papers were developed. There are also approved subject theses in the field of “Marketing” and “Public services”;
The department collaborates with the Kazakhstan Tourism Association (KTA) and the Kazakhstan Association of Hotels and Restaurants (KAHaR), which provide students with a place of practice, assist in job placement of graduates, in the internship program, including abroad, conduct presentations, provide the journal “Bulletin”.
Lectures and practical classes are conducted in accordance with the requirements of educational plans and work programs. All teachers use modern sources of literature and the Internet, interactive teaching methods (case studies, presentations, group work, sinkveyn, essays, SWOT-, GAP-, STEP-analysis, brainstorming, mini-study, business games, problem solving, business projects), technical training aids (overhead projector, LCD-projector and slides), and computer technology (computer testing program “Econom” for midterm control, computer simulation games, computer solution tasks in Excel) in the lectures and practical training and TSIS. In addition interactive whiteboard is widely used.
Department staff carry out its observe lectures according to the approved program for the “open lecture”. In accordance with the schedule mutual attendance of teachers of the department teachers do mutual control and exchange experience, attend lectures and practical classes of other teachers, conduct analysis and express their comments and suggestions. Teachers organize and conduct workshops and business meetings for students with the participation of leading specialists of firms, companies, a marketing campaign and tourists.
Individual students work takes a special place in the learning process. The themes and graphics of passing of students’ individual work were developed, the tasks for tests, control, and tests for students’ exams were drawn. According to the schedule of office hours individual consultations student assignments for TSIS and the SIS are held. Tasks for individual work of students TSIS (problems, cases, situations, checklists, quizzes, essays, writing individual assignments, role-playing, etc.) were prepared and used.
As an individual work of students (SIS) teachers offer to write a paper on special topics, including additional questions which partly not included in the lecture material. Another no less interesting version of the SIS is to hold a mini-study of the commodity market on the basis of special offers as well as developed by the students questionnaires on marketing service and product. Finally, as the SIS teachers offer to develop business projects on specific issues or topics. Participation in group business projects allows students to develop their skills in marketing, analytical and scientific research, analysis, proposals, recommendations and presentations.
Teachers of the department use distance form of education using modern information and telecommunication technologies, and currently all the necessary training materials in an on-line have been prepared.
Members of the department in accordance with an individual plan provide guidance, consultation and reviewing theses, supervise the practice, carry out on duty in the exams of their colleagues, prepare students for re-examinations.
Together with employees of the library faculty actively deals with new literature based on the working curriculum.
A large research work is conducted at the Department. All teachers are involved in developing the initiative research theme “Enhancing the image and competitiveness of higher education” publish their research papers, participate in national and international scientific conferences.
Students and MA course students are also actively involved in research work: make presentations at the meeting of the student scientific circle “Marketer and tourists”, participating in student and other scientific and practical conferences, round tables, are involved in the development of the faculty of research topics.
Teachers of the department do a lot of public and educational work. Advisors and facilitators in all groups were appointed in specialties of the Department.
Various events: master classes, business meetings, presentations, trips to the nature excursions in the firm, company, etc were organized for students. Curators conducted in groups of curatorial hours, are responsible for attendance and academic performance of students and ensure their participation in public events: subbotniks, “Dedication to students”, “Talents of first year students”, “Student Spring” in celebration of Nauryz in the New Year” party, and so etc.
In general the staff is united, cohesive team of highly qualified teachers, specialists with high professional level, responsible, conscientious, proactive teachers who have creative approach to work and loyalty to the students.

Specialty of "Marketing"
Marketing is a million and one thing you do to help to "promote" the goods. How to develop a new product? How to attract customers? How to conduct an effective advertising company? What kinds of profit will you get and sources from which it will be received? Questions, which make us thinking, and, unfortunately, often unanswered ... But not for a graduate of the Marketing degree at the UIB. Studying supply and demand for a particular product, researching and predicting of markets, developing and marketing of new products and services, that can ensure prosperity of the company.
Marketing includes a wide range of activities. In different companies the marketing manager position means occupation by one or more categories from the list of advertising, promotion, PR, brand management, marketing research, pricing policies, monitoring of the market and competitors, and logistics.
That's why good marketer should be able to deal with many issues: think in not standard way, analyze, decide and act independently, conduct research and exercise the imagination, sociability.

Specialty of "Socio-cultural service"
Doing business from the beauty salon to the petrol station, high-quality customer service, providing of new services - all these is a sphere of economist’s activity - specialty "Socio-cultural service" manager. This is a specialist, the main result of who is quality customer service by taking into account the interests of clients and organizations service. He provides analysis, planning and organization of service activities on the basis of supply and demand in a competitive environment, determines the price policy, participates in program development, and determines the efficiency of service activities.
A graduate of this profession will be able to develop a strategy and tactics of organizations and enterprises’ activity providing consumer and service, to use multiple languages in the provision of municipal services and technical support, will have techniques and methods of forming a system of interpersonal communication.

Specialty of "Tourism"
The development of market relations and the emergence of Kazakhstan as a sovereign state, led to the creation of tourist market services, and therefore, there appeared a need for holding trainings in the industry.
Specialty of "Tourism" occupies a prominent place in the preparation of the activity in tourism sphere. Specialist of tourist services creates and implements complex of tourist services in the market. His professional activity concerns the institutional, tourist excursions and museum, exhibition work.
The basic qualifications for a graduate of the "Tourism" degree:
- have basic knowledge of humanitarian and socio-economic sciences, to be able to use the knowledge and methods of these disciplines in professional and other activities;
- have a culture of thinking, to use the official language of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Kazakh language, properly use professional language;
- speak a foreign language, which allows to communicate with foreign partners and clients on a wide range of general and professional issues;
- Know the legal, moral and ethical standards in the professional field;
- have representation on species and location of tourist travel, about how to organize tourist activities, and the basics of market economy and tourism aspects of economic activity of firms, management features and marketing of tourism firms, the role of office equipment and telecommunications in the travel companies, legal standards regulating in the tourism activities.
Graduates of the "Tourism" specialty can work in the field of domestic and international tourism as:
- managers - managing public and private companies that are involved in tourism;
- marketing managers of companies’ tourism marketing departments;
- supervisors of advertising services of tourism enterprises;
- supervisors of the various services of the tourist complex (hotel, restaurant, etc.)
Graduates of the degree should be prepared for work in:
- governments, organizing tourism (ministries, local administrations, etc.).

Department news
27 of September 2011, the "Marketing and Tourism" department has held a Roundtable on "The role and potential of the RK on the world tourist market," timed to coincide with World Tourism Day. Among the invited guests were T. Jodorowsky - the leading marketer ACTs, Iskakova J. - director of travel agency «Travel Center». The roundtable was attended by Dean ITiF Ph.D., docent Kenesbaeva D.ZH., students of Tourism groups, Marketing and BAIS from 2, 3 and 4 courses. The round table discussed the topical issues of the tourist business, prospects and problems of development of tourism industry in Kazakhstan.

A state grant of the RK "The best teacher of high school" holder.
Expert reviewer of research projects of the National Aarhus Centre of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Kazakhstan, she has expertised three research projects.
Participant of the VI International Conference of Ministers of the Environment and Development in Asia-Pacific region, MCED 6, 27 September – 2 October 2010. Gave a presentation on a side-invent on "Socio-economic aspects of environmental problems in Kazakhstan and green development" theme.
Made a speech in Pakistan (SDC-2010, Islamabad, 21-23 December 2010) at the International Conference on Sustainable Development in South Asia on "The Environmental pollution: Hazardous Chemical Wastes Management in Kazakhstan».
She also participated in the International Seminar on Sustainable Development in South Asia.
2011
Made a presentation in Japan (KIF-20 011, Kyoto, 11-14 February 2011) at the International Conference on the interaction between man and nature on «Socio-economic aspects of environmental problems in Kazakhstan».
Participant of the IV Astana Economic Forum, the session of "Green growth-Post Kyoto", Astana, May 4-5, 2011. Presented a report on «A brief analysis of environmental pollution with products and consumption wastes in Central Asian region».
Participated in the eco-festival "Eco-Cup", Almaty, 24-27 February 2011, organized by the "Zhasyldar» Greens.kz movement, whose mission is free, democratic and strong Kazakhstan, existing in a peaceful, equitable and environmentally sustainable world community.
