The department was formed in 1998. It is general educational and graduating department UMB, trains specialists in following fields:

Journalism,
Sociology
Psychology
International relations

The department conducts the training of students of the 1st course of all specialities on general educational disciplines, except the base disciplines, such as the History of Kazakhstan, Philosophy, Sociology. There are entered elective courses on the following disciplines: Economic sociology, Political science, Ethics of business, Social psychology.

The department is trying hard to attract the best specialists in its sphere. There are 4 doctors of sciences, 23 candidates of science, 6 senior teachers who are working in the department. They have finished master school of the West European or American universities, and they are also holders of the international scholarship, having certificates.

Professors Zharkimbaeva Р, Ajupov N.G., Sarsembaeva R. B., Auelgazina T.K., senior lecturers Kenzhegulova N. S, Zajtseva I.A., etc. are large experts not only in the field they are working in, but also in adjacent areas. The practicians in the sphere of journalism, sociology, PR and consulting work in the department. They are Pavlenko V.N.-resident of the association “Bussiness women of Kazakhstan”, special correspondent of the Moscow journal “Sovetnik”, the head of the Arts and social disciplines department, political scientist, the author of the book for the undergraduates, member of the pedagogical sciences Academy – Erzhanova A.E.,

EDUCATIONAL TELEVISION STUDIO «WAVE UIB»

The studio is intended for learning technology of broadcastings. The studio has 30 workplaces equipped with the personal computer with a sound card, a sound mixer, a telephone hybrid, telephone equipment. Also there are a workplace of the announcer conducting the program, places for the guests in studio. All computer stations of studio are united by a local computer network and equipped by specialized programs. The given programs allow to have work on installation and decoding of soundtracks, to prepare, implement and correct a program schedule, to run archive of sound materials. The studio is intended for carrying out of lessons on practical development of skills of studio television shooting, including work with light, with videocameras, sound. Also the equipment provides performance of works on television shooting of video programs in various television genres, performance of installation of video and a sound at computer stations of nonlinear installation is provided. For the first time in 2008 the power of Television studio has allowed to spend the space-bridge with students and undergraduates of the Colombian university (New York). In October 2009 under invitation MBA of the Colombian university again was held the space-bridge with the undergraduates specializing on the central-Asian region.

THE CENTER OF SOCIOLOGICAL RESEARCHES

The center of sociological researches functions, first of all, for making skills of research, analytical and administrative activity among students-sociologists. The goal - to conduct annual sociological researches not only for the purpose of inculcation of skills of making questionnaires, questioning of audience and the leaders, the subsequent processing among students, and also inculcation of abilities to use tools of sociological researches, to create events, to write press releases, to use PR - tools and technologies of image formation and still many other things. In February, 2010 students of III course of a speciality "Sociology" (Sazanbaev И, Sulimanova А, Osipov М, Albaeva С) and I course (Ashirbekov А, Ermanova А, Karpushkin Д, Toksanbaeva К) took part in carrying out of sociological research on a problem «Adaptation of first-year students to training in high school».

THE FACULTY

	Erzhanova Aimkul Embergenovna The head of the «Arts and social disciplines department», the candidate of philosophical sciences, senior lecturer of High attestation comitee, professor UIB, the author of 2 textbooks and 2 electronic textbooks for undergraduates. She has over 45 articles in RК and abroad, the holder of the diploma of high education union workers, the Medal «Honourable educator», «the Best teacher of the UIB-2008», the member of the first Media-kurultaja RК. She has letters of thanks: International Euroasian Media – the Forum 2007, 2008 г; International PR – the Forum: 2006, 2007, 2008
	Auelgazina Tolkyn Kudaibergenovna The doctor of political sciences, the professor. A member of dissertational committee of defending a doctor's degree on a speciality - 23.00.02 - Political institutes, ethnopolitical conflictology, national political processes and technologies at Kazak National Pedagogical University after Abai. A member of Coordination expert commitee on examination of textbooks of Ministry of Education and Science RК. The chairman of the State Attestation committee of University of the international business. She has published: 1 monography and 4 manuals. The author of 80 publications, the manual was published in Islamabad (Pakistan).
	Saudabekova Elmira Kartambaevna The candidate of philosophical sciences, senior lecturer of High attestation comitee , the author of textbooks and the electronic textbook, website on "Philosophy", the person working for doctor's degree of the department «Philosophy and methodology» of Almaty State University. She has published the manual on "the Philosophy", which was analyzed by republican educational methodical center of the Ministry of Education and Science RК and also the electronic textbook on "Philosophy" for students of the 1st course and 2d courses (the intermediate state control). She has received the degree of the senior lecturer of High attestation comitee in December, 2009.
	Kenzhegulova Narbin Smagulovna Cand.Phil.Sci., the senior lecturer, the journalist. The author of typical programs: "Modern newspaper genres", "Language and style of the press", "Journalism and the literature", "Actual problems of journalism", "Problems of modern journalism", "the Literary criticism in the press"; Has developed electronic textbooks on the following disciplines: "Modern newspaper genres", "Journalism and the literature", "Consulting PR", "Professional etiquette PR", "management Sociology", "the Literary criticism in the press", "the Advertising information in communication". She is the professional writer, the member of the Union of writers. She is the first in the history of the Kazakh literature the writer the woman-fantast, has about 20 art books. A member of the Union of journalists RК.
	Nigaj Stanislav Lvovich The candidate of philosophical sciences, the journalist, the senior lecturer of Arts and social disciplines department in UIB. He had the training in the United Kingdom Great Britain at the London University. The whole number of educational-methodical and scientific production – more than 40 items including, manuals of "a philosophy Basis», "Logician" and «a political science Basis», educational-methodical programs «Basis of a political science» in the English language. The level of his English language is proficiency.
	Tazhina Gainia Orazbekovna, PhD Gainiya Tazhina is an Associate Professor of the UIB. Her teaching emphasis is on Social and Work Psychology and her research focuses on Social Psychological Phenomena of Group. Her recent papers and publications include “Organizational behavior issues in Kazakhstan” (2010), Employee relations (2010), Leadership Development in Kazakhstan (2011). Other professional experience includes serving as Academic Advisor of Student Psychological Center UPGRADE. She has extensive experience in organizational consulting and has provided educational programs or trainings for local and international companies. Currently she is a Fellow of OSI Faculty Development Program 2009-2012 at the Columbia University, New York, USA. She was awarded by grants of IREX (2003) and MASHAV (2004) on professional improvement.
	Zajtseva Irina Aleksandrovna The candidate of historical sciences (defended in the Moscow State University), the senior lecturer of«Arts and social disciplines department», of UIB. She has scientific articles, theses of reports of scientific conferences, manuals – over 30 items. The author of the electronic textbook «History of Kazakhstan». The head of the Center of Sociological researches.
	Moldabekov Amir Abusagitovich Cand.Phil.Sci., the senior lecturer, the journalist. The head of the Educational television studio «WAVE UIB». In 1972-1988 he was working in the studio of the extarstudio Broadcasting Kazakhstan1. The head of the technological supply department The holder of the award of UNESCO. One of authors of the article «Concept of electronic university».
	Turabekova Bahytgul Bektursynovna The candidate of political sciences, the senior lecturer. The Author of educational-methodical manuals on «the General political science» and "Ethnopolitical science". She has published about 20 scientific articles. She reads courses: political science, sociology, special Disciplines on PR, etc.
	Chongarov Erzhan Kastekzhanovich The candidate of philosophical sciences, the senior lecturer. He teaches lessons in English and Russian languages. In 2006 has defended the dissertation on a theme: «the Concept of the letter or a deconstruction method in culturologists».He reads lectures on philosophy, philosophy and science history in English.
	Maulsharif Mira The candidate of sociological sciences, the senior lecturer. She has about 20 scientific works and the methodical works published in RК and abroad including 1 manual on "Sociology". She reads articles on statistics in sociology, economic sociology, political sociology, city sociology, the theory of social protection, etc. special Disciplines
	Abzhanov Kosylgan Abzhanovich The journalist, from 1975 till 1995 he was working as the editor, a member of a script-editorial board and art commitee, the director of the creative association "Chronicle". Since 1995 he has worked as the chief editor in scientific program of the Kazakh television. He is the author of the script and the director of such documentary films as: «Бір ғұ мыр» О чем поют дутар "," добрые сентябри Жанабая Азаматова "," Мәш һү р Жүсіп »и.т.д. The editor of more than 60 – documentary and art television movies. In 2002 he has defended the master's dissertation on a theme:« Formation and problems of development of studio "Казактелефильм".
	Solomeeva Valentina Fedorovna The senior lecturer of HIGH SCHOOL, the teacher of physical training. The master of Sports, the Master of Sports of the International Class on basketball, 1972 – the Champion of the World University game. Achievements: 2001-2006 team UIB takes active part in student's league on basketball among high schools Almaty, 2002-2003 team UIB has taken 6 place in Republic, 2006 – team UIB has taken 10th place in Republic (among 16 teams)
	Abeuova Shuga Kurmanalievna The candidate of philosophical sciences, the teacher of philosophy, culturologists, othe humanitarian Disciplines. She teaches lessons in the Kazakh and Russian languages. 2000-2003- The participant of international phylosophy - futurological club; 2001-2002-Improvement of professional skills on pedagogic and philosophy at Almaty State University after Abai; 2005- the member of the clubm "Young philosophers» at Academy of Science RК; She has 15 publications, 1 monography, 3 articles were published in the scientific journals “Phylosophy”, “Misl”, Vestnik of the Kazak State University. Her theme of the dissertation was successfully approved on October 23d, 2009 .
	Barysova Laura Sabyrzhanovna The Senior teacher of PR, journalism, sociology. The programm of improvement of professional skill. Finished school "Debut", master class of Ju. P.Aravina's, courses of TV presenters. She has participated in the International Forum of PR-professionals. She is the scientific supervisor of student's PR-projects: «ДИССО – стремись вперед», «Zhas Tulpar UIB», «Share the most important», etc. which have received prize-winning places. She was also the scientific supervisor of student's PR-projects at festival «PR and advertizing in Almaty». The Supervisor of student's works in television studio and the Center of Sociological Researches «WAVE UIB». The member of Club “Kazakhstan PR – professionals”. She was confessed as the best supervisor of VII student's competition of PR-projects. She has published articles the Modern press-service in the commercial organizations »//in the collection section«: PR and mass media in business in 2008г. The senior educative worker of the«Arts and social disciplines department», In 2008 she has received an award «the Best educative worker of year».
	Kulnazarova Ajnur Zhasaganbergenovna Senior lecturer of UIB. In 2006-2008 for improvement of professional skill she has graduated from the institute family therapy and psychology on a speciality: practical psychology and psychotherapy in Novosibirsk, also a seminar-training: «Simvoldrama in work with people». Courses of improvement qualification: 1. «Modern receptions and technicians Neurolingvistic psycology»; 2. «Art of communications and influence in Neurolingvistic psycology ». She has received the certificate of international center NLP with getting the rank «Expert of Neurolingvistic psycology ». The author of 2 manuals about technique of teaching, research articles on sociology in scientific editions of republican and international level. A master's dissertation theme: «Social rehabilitation of the population in regions of ecological trouble».
	Batsueva Dina Jurevna The senior teacher of philosophy of «Arts and social disciplines department» She teaches lessons in English and Russian languages. The basic directions of scientific researches: Transformation of mythological consciousness. Publications: Strokes to a portrait of a policy against a myth (associative parallels) (The vestnik of Kazak national university.) About principles of formation of a course of religious studies. (The vestnik of Kazak national university.)
	Rakhimov Ajbek Ahmetovich The teacher of physical training of«Arts and social disciplines department». From 2001-2008 he worked as the trainer on basketball. Since October, 2008 he has been working in the Team of the central sports club of army of the Ministry of Defence of Republic Kazakhstan. The educative worker.
	Kozhagulov Oralbaj Kuldybaevich Cand.Tech.Sci., the senior lecturer, teacher of the study- safety principles of life. He has passed Republican courses of improvement of qualification of an administrative board in the field of emergency situations and civil defense at the Republic Kazakhstan Ministry of Emergency Measures. The field of scientific interests – working out resource-saving and safe of industrial technologies for life. He has published over 50 scientific works.
	Kalybekova Manara Chaltenovna The candidate of historical sciences. The author of the monography «History of the deported people», the manual on History of Kazakhstan. She has published over 40 scientific works, from them 6 were published in the far abroad countries. The participant of round tables and international scientific conferences in Kazakhstan and abroad. Presently she is working a theme «Formation of a totalitarian regime in Kazakhstan».

Scientific research work of students

Research work of students in the «Arts and social disciplines department includes two directions:

educational-research work;
scientific research.

Educational-research work is performance of various kinds of tasks during the course and practice period. Scientific research work of students is carried after the lessons, in the form of participation of students in scientific sections, master classes, «round tables» etc. Students, undergraduates are involved into the scientific research work

Results of the department scientific work are implemented into educational process, aтв presented in the form of reports at the annual student's scientific conferences.
Students of the UIB took part in

The International conference Bar Camp Central Asia 2009. (Bishkek);
The International conference «Islam: a civilization and the modern world» (November, 2009);
Student's Republican scientifically-practical conference «Priorities of global development of science and education of the XXI-st century» in the Kazahk-American University (November, 2009);
in city competition of social advertizing «Almaty – a city of students» (December, 2009);
in the International scientific congress «Kazakhstan in the global world: social and economic and cultural aspects» (UIB, on December, 3-5rd, 2009);
The International conference of students and young scientists "Lomonosov-2010" (Moscow State University, April 2010);
In the Ist Republican student's scientifically-practical conference «an IT formation Role in intensive innovative-industrial development of RК» (Park of information technology, МУИТ, April, 2010).

The striking events of year were:

the Space bridge of the UIB undergraduates and the Colombian University in New York on education problems in RК and the USA, student's and youth life (on October, 9th 2009). Organizers of the space bridge - professor CU SIPA Rafis Abazov and the head of the Arts and social disciplines department, prof. Erzhanova A.E., the senior lecturer of the same department Tazhina G.O.
the Round table of undergraduates within the framework of the World Day of philosophy on November, 23rd, 2009 on a theme: «the Science and morals» with participation of priest Carlos Laoz Zamarro chancellor of the Kurii Eparhy in Almaty. The moderator – the head of the Arts and social disciplines department, prof. Erzhanova A.E.
the Round table «Arts education in Japan» - on March, 18th 2010 with participation of Professor Shiba, Professor Suzawa, Professor Kawamata - Japan-Kyoto Sangyo University. At a meeting there were students of specialities "Journalism", «Social work», «Accounting and audit», "Tourism". Education systems in Japan and in Kazakhstan were the main subject of the discussion.

In February, 2010 students of III course of a speciality "Sociology" (Sazanbaev И, Sulimanova А, Osipov М, Albaeva С) and I course (Ashirbekov А, Ermanova А, Karpushkin Д, Toksanbaeva К) took part in carrying out of sociological research on a problem «Adaptation of first-year students to training in high school». During the 15th annual student's conferences in UIB on the given problem three reports were presented:

Results of research (Sulimanova А),
Adaptation by eyes of first-year students (Dementova Е, etc.),
Credit system: opinion of students (Sadvakasova Ж, etc.)

During 15th annual student's «Weeks of a science» in UIB (on April, 12-16th, 2010) in section of «Arts and social disciplines» department on the theme «Actual problems of development of mass-media, education and social sphere» were presented 28 reports, including 3 reports in the Kazakh language (10,7 %), 22 reports in Russian (78,6 %) and 3 reports in English (10,7 %).

Student's PR-conference is annually held. VIII student's PR-conference «Heroes of our time: PRopinion» was held on 23rd of April in 2010 has taken place with support of the professional PR-organizations: PR Club , NASO, agency "Renaissance".

In television studio "UIB-Волна" in 2009-2010 academic year the senior lecturer of the “Arts and social disciplines” department Petrenko S.Y. every week held film club “THINK!” for the students of the 3d course on specialty “Journalism”. Students also had the course of the Actor’s skills and scenic speech under the guidance of the actor and director Sergei Kalashnikov, having come from St-Petersburg.

In television studio «Wave UIB» are held presentations which have been recorded by students of a specialty "Journalism" ("News", «Nauryz in UIB», «Social advertizing», «PR and advertizing», etc.), exhibitions of scientific works and photo materials of teachers of the “Arts and social disciplines” department.
